Festival Faux Pas #1

After 30+ years of festivals, I've frequently found myself in situations that are awkward, embarrassing, and mostly of my own making. Here's one of them.

Location: Gunnersbury Park, London

Artist: Fisher, famous Australian DJ

Injuries: Pride

Cause: Football

Outcome: Preventable

Ryan and Kieron from the stage security team were chatting when I wandered over, and it turned out that Declan Rice was on the side of the stage watching Fisher.

Now, I don’t know much about football anymore, and it’s been decades since Damian Rice’s incredible album O, but I recognised the name; it’s a football player, not a musician.

“What, the England player?” I asked.

“Yeah. The Arsenal player”

“Where is he?”

“Standing next to Thor.”

There was a slight pause.

“Who does Thor play for?” I asked.

Another slight pause, and the two of them looked at each other.

“The Avengers?” replied Ryan.

Chris Helmsworth, the famous Australian actor, was watching from the side of the stage with Declan Rice, the famous English football player.

To be fair, Thor would probably be a great defender…
